Due to COVID-19 and the importance of physical distancing to ongoing community wellbeing, National Families Week 2020 was celebrated at home with activities encouraged and shared through social media.
Organisations, families and individuals were encouraged to celebrate National Families Week@HOME.
The pandemic highlighted the importance of the theme of National Families Week – ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities‘ and the role families play by working together to support each other and provide care for those in the broader community. It was a time to show kindness and help protect the health and wellbeing of everyone in the community. The National Families Week Top Ten Tips provided some ideas – please adhere to physical distancing and government imposed restrictions!
Resources were available on the website to help participants to celebrate at home. Activity sheets, colouring-in pages etc. were available and participants posted post their efforts to our Facebook page as well as Instagram by following nationalfamiliesweek and using #nationalfamiliesweek, #strongerfamilies, #strongercommunities.
Alternatively, participants explored their local area and posted photos of the beauty to be found in the outdoors (keeping in mind local physical distancing rules!).
Promotional products were not sent out at this year.
Participants made use of the online resources that were available on the National Families Week website.
National Families Week 2021 is being planned and it is hoped it can be held with community events as in previous years, this will be dependent on Government advice at the time.
