Due to the current situation around COVID-19 and the importance of physical distancing to ongoing community wellbeing, we have made the decision to celebrate National Families Week twice this year, with physical gatherings postponed but at home activities encouraged and shared through social media. At this stage, we plan to hold the traditional National Families Week as a recovery event later in the year. Promotional products will be sent out at that time.
In the meantime we are encouraging organisations, families and individuals to celebrate National Families Week@HOME.
This pandemic highlights the importance of the theme of National Families Week – ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities‘ and the role families play by working together to support each other and provide care for those in the broader community. It is a time to show kindness and help protect the health and wellbeing of everyone in the community. The National Families Week Top Ten Tips provide some ideas – please adhere to physical distancing and government imposed restrictions!
Resources available on the website can help you celebrate at home. Download some of the activity sheets, colouring-in pages etc. and post your efforts to our Facebook page as well as Instagram by following nationalfamiliesweek and using #nationalfamiliesweek, #strongerfamilies, #strongercommunities.
Alternatively, you can explore your local area and post photos of the beauty to be found in the outdoors (keep in mind local physical distancing rules!).
We look forward to seeing how you are celebrating your family and community at home.
Promotional products will not be sent out at this time, they will be kept for the recovery event later in the year. As a result it will not be necessary to register your activity – simply post it on social media (see links below).
Please make use of the online resources that are available on the National Families Week website.
Additional online resources and information will be provided on the website as they become available.
